We provide outstanding nursery provision for three and four year olds alongside our Reception provision.
Children access 15 or 30 hours of provision with us, over 5 days, term time only. Children attend each morning from 9.00 am to 12.00pm or each afternoon from 12.15pm to 3.15pm. Those attending for 30 hours begin at 9.00am and finish at 3.00pm. It is possible to purchase additional time allowing your child to begin at 8.45 am and/or finish at 3.15pm.
To be eligible for a 30 hour place, we require an 11 digit code.
For more information on applying for a 30 hour code, please go to: www.childcarechoices.gov.uk
Our on entry data for 2024 shows that 91% of children who had accessed our nursery provision entered reception at the age appropriate level or above in all prime areas of learning compared with 65% of children who had not attended our nursery.
The sessions are run by a qualified teacher supported by two early years practitioners. When children arrive at school they are welcomed by these highly trained staff who ease the separation from parents by engaging the children in a range of self directed activities. We encourage all the children in school to be independent and we foster this through a play based curriculum.
Children can access a range of learning opportunities independently. These are planned using the schools progression skills curriculum ensuring that pupils are developing the expertise they need to access the National Curriculum. Planning is also linked to the governments development matters guidance.
Children can access a range of play activities in their foundation one (nursery) classroom. They are also encouraged to explore the large out doors provision., which is shared by the foundation two (reception) children. As this space is shared children who attend our nursery settle quicker in reception as they are already familiar with the setting and the staff.
Each day the children engage in two whole class learning sessions where the development of language is promoted through the use of stories, rhymes and new experiences.
Throughout the week the children also work with the teacher in small groups to develop their early phonics skills. The children who attend our nursery and then move into full time school at Herringthorpe find early writing and reading easier as the same phonics scheme is followed throughout the school.
