Herringthorpe Infant School
Careers Related Learning
We are excited that Herringthorpe Infant School has been selected to be part of a £2.6 million Department for Education backed program called “The Start Small Dream Big” project run by the Careers and Enterprise company. The programme holds huge importance for the future of careers education. It gives schools the opportunity to be part of an innovative national programme of activity and research, influencing and shaping future policy decisions on primary career-related learning.
Some of the many benefits of the programme include:
- Increased awareness and aspirations amongst primary aged children of the range of jobs and career pathways available to them in the future.
- Removal of barriers and stereotypes which limit children’s thinking about their future careers.
- Provide children forward-looking, realistic views of the jobs and the way we work.
- Develop understanding amongst children of the link between what they learn in school, skills and the world of work.
- Increased parental engagement in supporting children to think broadly about future careers.
The program will last 2.5 years and we are excited to be embarking on this learning adventure. Careers Related Learning (CRL) not only introduces pupils to various career paths, tackles bias and stereotyping within careers and encourages parental partnership with school but most importantly it to support pupils to ‘dream big’.
